LET’S BEAT HOLIDAY HUNGER - Once again we will be running this valuable scheme which recognises that during the school summer holidays, many parents/carers struggle to feed children who are eligible for free school meals in term time. Last summer we supplied 180 lunches to local children solely from donations received by our church congregations and other local organisations. There will be open collection sessions between 9.30am and 11.30am on Mondays at St James’ Church and on Wednesdays at The St Hugh’s Centre from 29th July until 28th August (no session 26th August for Bank Holiday). Parents/carers can call in for a free lunch supplies pack which will contain about 3 days’ worth of provisions. Please spread the word to anyone who you think would benefit from this scheme. Again we are depending on donations of food items and, if you are able to help with this, please pick up a leaflet from church with a list of suggested donations. Donations can be left in the collections boxes in the following locations: St John’s Church Hall (outside the hall main door), St James’ Church (collection box in the entranceway), St Hugh’s Church (please add to the food bank box in the entrance).

CHARITY OF THE MONTH - This month our parish will be supporting the Mission to Seafarers which provides help and support to the 1.5 million crewmen and women who face danger every day to keep our global economy afloat. Men and women at sea can be affected by any number of problems: money worries, mental health issues and loneliness, as well as piracy, shipwreck and abandonment. The charity provides practical, emotional and spiritual support. We all rely on these workers for the food and goods which we take for granted in our shops. To raise funds we will have collecting buckets in St John’s and St Hugh’s Churches, and a Coffee Morning at St James’ Church on Saturday 20th July from 10am to 11.30am. Please try to support the parish’s fund raising efforts for Mission to Seafarers in whatever way you can.

The Social/Fundraising Committee are looking for new members to bring some new ideas and energy to this important part of parish life. We are holding a meeting on Monday 8th July at St John’s Hall, Cranmer Room at 7.30pm for everyone who would like to see the social and fundraising life of the parish grow. If you have ideas but don’t know how to run them, then come along and share your idea. If you have never been on a committee before, this maybe the one for you! It is for all ages and experience.

SAFARI SUPPER – Churches Together in Baildon are organising a Safari Supper Friday 5th July at 6.00pm starting at the Moravian Church. Tickets are £8.00 for a two course meal, £4.00 for under 12s and £20 for families. Tickets are available from Denise Hopker, Caroline Skelton and Carolyn Gomersal. It promises to be a great evening so please come along. This year we are raising funds for Missional Generation, the CTiB charity of the year, and Ben Jones will be talking about the ways in which they seek to inspire young people on their faith journey through modern technology. We need your help in the following ways:-
As the Parish will be hosting the dessert and coffee part of the meal, we need some desserts for 50 people! We have an offer of cheese and biscuits so anything else will be gratefully received.
Help set up the hall late afternoon on Friday
Buy a ticket and come along!
If you can help with setting up or providing a dessert, please contact Carolyn Gomersal on 01274 587857 or email her at cagomersal@hotmail.co.uk. This is our event, as we are all members of Churches Together in Baildon, so do come along and support the event and charity.
