Work is now almost complete to tile the remainder of St James’s tower to match the existing roof. Part of the tower was originally boarded and this was rotting, leading to water damage to the structure of the building. A membrane has been in place for some time to protect the boards and allow them to dry out but this has not enabled us to solve the issue. By tiling instead of re-boarding, it will be more weather-proof and require less maintenance in years to come. We look forward to the scaffolding coming down next week. We are grateful to the Yorkshire Heritage Churches Trust for grant funding to help with this project.
